I took the 50 min trip out into the forest to check it out after work. He had cleaned it up pretty well, but it still showed signs of neglect. Some rusty areas, but it was definitely rideable. I negotiated a fair price and, after some family consulting, returned the next morning to ride it home. It was strong and comfortable, but certainly not 100%.
Once I got it home, I immediately set out to strip it down. The rear seat/hard case and fairing were the first casualties. After removing the engine guards, case, fairings, and stock exhaust, I'm figuring the bike has lost 50-60 pounds (or more).
It was a beast just to get on the center stand. It had been put on very short rear shocks and the front forks had been dropped a few inches. With the help of a jack, I was able to stabilize the bike on the center stand.
Then came the spark plugs (actually in fair condition) and removing the exhaust (which was rusted almost all over). My rusty pile of scrap metal is growing by the minute.
Here the bike sits with no rear suspension, front forks at the right height, no seat, no exhaust and about to get it's fluids changed and a new headlight and handlebars. Should be a fun weekend!
